On this page I will tell you a little bit about myself and my background. My name is Gregory Thinnes and I am a Patrol Sergeant with the CITY of COLONIAL HEIGHTS POLICE DEPARTMENT in Virginia. I have specialties in Crash Reconstruction, DUI Enforcement, Crime Scene Technician, Dept. Honor Guard Team Member and I am a DCJS certified general instructor with specialties in speed measurement, firearms & ASP baton.
I previously served with the CITY of PETERSBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT/VA where I was a Field Training Officer and Tactical Team Member. I have numerous awards to include the local VFW: Police Officer of the Year for 2011, American Legion: Police Officer of the Year for 2014 and the City of Colonial Heights Chamber of Commerce Police Officer of the Year for 2016. I am also a 2015 recipient of the Virginia Association of Chief's of Police/Virginia Police Chief's Foundation: Award for Valor.
I am retired from the VIRGINIA AIR NATIONAL GUARD as a U.S. AIR FORCE, Security Policeman and prior to that I served 4 years active duty with the UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS from 1993-1997. I deployed to the Middle East in support of the Global War on Terror in 2011 and 2004 and to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in support of Operation Sea Signal in 1994.
I was bitten by the patch bug a few years ago and started to collect patches from different places from around Virginia and the United States. I find the variety and magnatude of patches to be truly amazing. The history and details contained on some are time tested documents for cities, counties and towns across the Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States of America.
